Here's a quick run-down of Michael Jew:
Michael Jew is a Canadian-born, male of Chinese descent. He grew up in Vancouver and was raised there by his loving family. Michael attended Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary and later moved to Burnaby where he attended Alpha Secondary. In high school, he met some of the most inspirational and brilliant people he has come across, individuals who have played pivotal roles in helping him develop academically and as an active member of the community. During his five years at Alpha, Michael participated and eventually co-led a number of student groups, including the OFFENCE (social activism club), the Environmental Club and the class of 2009 Graduation Council. Upon graduation, Michael was bestowed the prestigious Alpha Olympian Award, an honour given to a student who exemplifies leadership, community service and overall excellence -qualities he will always try to uphold.
Outside of the academic arena, Michael Jew is heavily involved in community volunteer work and youth organizations. This included participation in the 759 "Falcon" Royal Canadian Air Cadets Program, where he was also a member of its marching band (as a percussionist), first aid team and Sun Run team. Since 2006, Michael has been volunteering with Adanac Park Lodge, a local senior home that emphasizes empowerment of seniors to become independent. Michael returns to APL on a weekly basis to provide whatever support he can.
Michael Jew is currently in his third year in the Faculty of Science at the beautiful Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia . He is studying towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Pharmacology and International Relations minor and hopes to eventually pursue a career that combines international health and medicine.
